Unity Goes to the Movies Goes to Sunday School: The Music Box

Sunday, October 27th 2019

From time to time, Rod Kennedy will be hosting movies as part of our Sunday School program led by Debra Hopkins (Miss Debbie). The offerings will be selected from the opus of Hollywood films made for children and young adults that will be entertaining and have a message that fits in with our Unity teachings.

The films will be shown as part of our regular Sunday School classes held during the 11am Sunday Service and will be about a half hour in length to start. The primary focus will be for children from ages 8 to 12 but all children and teens are welcome. We will meet in the Sunday School room on the 3rd floor for prayer and quiet time, then move downstairs to the upper room for the movie and a discussion afterwards.

The inaugural offering will be held on October 27th and will be The Music Box, a Laurel and Hardy short film comedy released in 1932. The film, which depicts the pair attempting to move a piano up a large flight of steps won the first Academy Award for Best Action Short in 1932. In 1997, it was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
