The Law of Inertia states that a body will remain at rest or in uniform motion, in a straight line of direction, unless acted upon by some external force.
Our tendency is to stay still, to remain at rest, and to not do anything on a project or an idea because of the force of inertia. It is necessary to consciously do something to get ourselves in motion. And taking the first step can often be the most difficult one, can’t it? For various reasons: for your failure, thinking you’ve got to be perfect… None of us is perfect, right? We all make mistakes. Being perfect, doing it perfectly just isn’t an option. We just make mistakes.
Taking a first step…just take a step…take a logical step that makes sense…any step…any step…personal ones that: maybe go back to school? Well, buy a catalog. Look through the catalog.
You know, take a step, any step. We don’t have to know the whole picture…as in the great quote by Dr. Martin Luther King: You don’t have to climb the whole stairway, or see the whole stairway…Just take the first step.
And that’s so true. Take the step and get moving. Overcome the law of inertia and get moving, get rolling…And sometimes you take one step, and that leads to another step that leads to another step, that leads to another step…and it unfolds.
Big things are done by little steps, right? The big things…Someone is writing a screen play, for instance…You know, it starts out with an idea. And then it starts out with taking some time to write. Do a little writing, and, over time, you get this big motion picture…A lot of little steps. Just take a step and see where it goes.
As you have heard me say before, maybe, God can’t steer a parked car.
When you are in motion, God works through you. God can only do for you what God can do through you… God can only do for you what God can do through you…The tug is at your heart. The desire is at your heart, the inspiration…and then we have got to take a step.
And we don’t need to see the whole way. Like driving a car…how many of you are driving a car? How many of you have been in a car? We know that at night, you turn on the headlights and you can see a little ways in front of you. You drive forward and then you can see a little more ways.
Take a step and then you begin to see more…you see more. Take a step and you get moving, you get the momentum going, and one thing leads to another
